Our school uses the Accelerated Reader program to help motivate students to read. For each quiz that a student passes on Accelerated Reader, the program calculates the number of words that were in that particular book. It will continually add these totals together throughout the year and update the number of words read with each quiz passed.
Students receive a certificate and a prize with each reading goal that they successfully meet.
This year's theme is "Reading is Magical". Our goals and categories will be
Magical Magicians: 10,000 words
Story Sorcerers: 50,000 words
Word Wizards: 100,000 words
Keepers of the Castle: 500,000 words
Students will receive a different prize for each category including bookmarks, bracelets, pencils, erasers, activity books, notebooks, and a medal for the top reader.
This will be our second year running Accelerated Reader in this format. The first year was a success, and we are looking forward to making it even more successful in this upcoming school year.
