Help me give my students all the Project LIT titles! These books will go into classroom libraries of several English teachers on campus so they are available to as many students as possible.
Our students come from a range of backgrounds and a range of places. However, our literature offerings often center white narratives and fail to resonate with all students.
Every student wants and deserves to see themselves in the books they read!
We believe they need more choice in what they read and study, to entice them to be lifelong readers and learners.
My Project
Our school just became a Project LIT chapter. Project LIT is "a grassroots literacy movement empowering readers and leaders in hundreds of schools and communities around the world." The goal of the project is to get diverse, high-interest, young adult titles into the hands of middle and high schoolers so that they can see themselves in their books and learn to love reading (something many of them have lost since childhood). We are committed to racial equity on our campus, and these books are just one step in doing this work.
This grant will fill out our classroom libraries and ensure that we have every single Project LIT title on our campus and available to students.
The titles will be shared across several teachers, who can then check them out to students for curbside pick-up during remote learning. Even though we aren't all in the classroom together, we are committed to getting these important stories into our students' hands!
