My Students
I am pleased to introduce my happy and inquisitive classroom of first graders! Students in my class are between the ages 5-7 and are full of wonder and enthusiasm for learning. It has been my delight to experience working with this young age group. Anxious to please, these first graders work hard and love to be actively participating throughout instruction time. My goal is to bring enjoyment and smiles to their little faces as we work together to establish a positive foundation and love for learning.
My Project
Reading is like eating, you've got to do it everyday! I teach my students that just like food nourishes and helps our bodies to grow, reading feeds and expands our brains. Everyday reading is one of the most effective ways to develop cognitive connections.
As an educator, I believe that a successful love for reading starts with giving students opportunities to choose books based on their own interests. Many of my first graders are new and developing readers. To foster reading confidence, I am launching a take-home library which allows students to select a book to have read to them each night. Designed with student benefit in mind, this program can help students to identify their interests, develop listening skills and imagination, build relationships, and help to promote communication and a broader vocabulary. With these books, my goal is to provide a parent-involved literary experience for my young students to nurture a love for reading.
