Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I work on the South Side of Chicago, and the community I serve is a high crime, high poverty community. The students I see struggle with trauma, grief, abuse, poverty and crime. While most of my scholars struggle to read on grade level, I still believe I can instill a love for reading and writing through my Reading and Writing Workshops. Students don't have the basic things they need to be successful, and as a passionate educator, I will never let that keep me from giving them the very best daily.

Please help me continue to instill a love for reading and writing by building our classroom library with books on various reading levels, along with books with characters they can relate to.

The supplies in my project will give each of my students everything they need to engage fully in Reading and Writing Workshop.
