Ms. Leonard from Manassas VA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students opportunities to learn through reading books such as the Who Was series.
The school I work at is a Title I school where over 80% of the population is economically disadvantaged and English Language Learners. My students come to school every day and work hard to learn and overcome many of their obstacles. Their parents are very supportive and provide the necessities, however extra supplies or experiences are provided through the school and teachers.
My students are very curious about things that happen around the world.
I want to give them the opportunity to learn as much as they can.
My students learn the most about the world around them through learning. They have become interested in nonfiction books like the Who Was series. This gives them a chance to learn about famous people and their life. I also want to increase the amount of authors that my children experience that are Hispanic or different ethnicity that represent them. My students like to see authors that look like they do. There are a limited amount of children's books available from diverse authors. When I do read a book to my students that includes some Spanish, they become so excited and engaged in the book.
