Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an amazing group of students who, despite many life and socioeconomic challenges, persevere and learn. I have a diverse group of students, many of whom are ESL and have special needs.
The students in my class are eager to learn and have a unique drive for learning.
They question everything and ask thought-provoking questions.
One quality that really drives my students' learning is their charisma and energy that they bring to the room every day. The energy they bring keeps me charged up, and I truly love teaching this group of students.
My Project
Recently our school district finally did away with an out-dated reading program and allowed teachers to take the wheel on their students literacy. We were not given any new material and told to make do with what we have. I want to show my students that a good book can make all the difference. The book “Fish in a Tree” will be used for an entire quarter of the school year and will play a huge role in understanding acceptance and diversity. This book teaches lessons that we as educators do not have time to teach. I am hoping that my students will take the morals and vaiues that this book instills and apply it to their everyday lives.
