This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing. They come to school prepared to learn and try their best to achieve our high expectations every day. Our school is located in a low-income area with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Engagement is key for my students and I want them to be engaged in their learning so they stay in school and succeed!
I want my students to learn and be successful and have fun at the same time.
I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning, their engagement in classroom activities, and their desire to share their learning at home!
My Project
Books are such a necessary part of a first-grade classroom. First graders need access to a large library of books to help reinforce their reading skills. These books will be used to teach necessary skills such as main idea and characterization. Students need books for flashlight reading, book buddies, and weekend backpacks. Weekend backpacks are three books and a puppet chosen by students to use on the weekend.
First graders love to read.
And what better way to capitalize on that love than by providing books that will engage them. These are all titles of books that will captivate their minds and they will enjoy and will choose to read repeatedly. I have chosen a selection of fiction and nonfiction for their reading FUN.
My class is a really special group of students, and I love seeking out ways to engage them in reading. Please consider bringing joy to my classroom by supporting this project!
