Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Reading is "FUN"damental, and just plain FUN! When was the last time you read a good book and traveled, via your imagination, to another new, distant, fascinating place? My children need to take this journey, and they need to have books to begin their travels.
I have 19 students in my class, many of whom are away from their families for the first time.
They are excited about being in school, and are eager to learn new things. Many of them come from lower income families, and receive free or reduced lunch. We are part of an elementary school, and everyday is an adventure!
This is the first experience with formal education for many of my students, and for most of their families as well. School is a big deal, as it should be, and we are helping to teach the families what to expect as they travel on this journey with their children.
My Project
Books are so important, and children need to be shown this at an early age. Books open doorways to new places. Children need to be shown how to enjoy a book and a book on tape with music and loads of expression. These materials will teach them to love books and reading.
My students will develop their ability to use language to express their thoughts, to tell and retell simple stories in sequential order, and to identify and describe familiar characters. They will see letters and what letters are used for. They will also be able to share stories with their families, and to recall familiar stories when they take the same book home to share with their families.
We need to get books into the hands of children, and their parents and your donation will allow me to offer new books on tape to my students and offer an opportunity to increase and strengthen our classroom library.
Your donation will help support literacy development and foster a love of books for the students in my class.
Books and books on tape allow an opportunity for someone to always be able to read with a child, and my students love to be read to. Their eyes light up when I introduce new books, and new books on tape, what could be better! As a child, I can remember being read to every night, and I would like to help to create some of these memories for my students, and with your help we can.
