Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in Southern California, where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students face many obstacles in their lives, such as poverty and crime. But despite these issues, they come to school every day, ready to learn.
My students are enthusiastic learners, who love to read, write, and learn new things.
I want to encourage their enthusiasm and provide them with a safe, nurturing environment where they will persevere and feel successful.
My Project
Everyday I ask my students to read independently at their personal reading level. This will help them become stronger, more fluent readers. I also want to develop a love of reading and become life long readers. So once a week, they get to go to our classroom library to choose new books that are just right for them.
With the addition of a new carpet, bean bag chairs, and book bags, I hope to create a fun, comfortable classroom library that my students will enjoy visiting.
They will be able to pick books and store them in their book bags, then sit back, relax, and read a good book in a comfy bean bag chair.
