My Students

The students in our first grade class come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 60% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Queens. Many of our students are new to this country and are learning English as a new language. As diverse as our students are, they all have the same common goal; to work hard, learn new things and be the best they can be.

My Project

These guided reading books will be the tool to help my students to continue to grow as readers. They will learn skills to help their comprehension and phonemic awareness. Students will be able to read in leveled reading groups with their peers and small teacher assisted groups. ​As the student progresses they will have the opportunity to gain new reading skills by having the access to read engaging books as their reading level soars.

The best way to improve reading is to have the opportunity to read everyday.

By providing this guided reading set, my students will be able to grow into strong independent readers.
