My Students

We are a magnet high school in New Haven, CT that serves the city, as well as the suburbs surrounding it. Our students choose to come to our school to study either business or allied health. All students qualify for free lunch and often receive fee waivers for standardized testing.

Our students are some of the most interesting and driven kids you will ever meet.

Many travel over an hour to attend our school and take advantage of the opportunities we offer.

My Project

Reading "The Hate U Give" changed my thinking about young adult books and how they are extremely relevant and challenge students thinking about themselves and their communities. Kids need to read about people and events that are relevant to their own lives.

"The Hate U Give "does just that.

We can create a unit about social issues and look at ways to improve our own communities. The book will also give struggling readers a chance to engage with an exciting book about young people and controversy. I know that the students will really enjoy this book and would appreciate the chance to read it.
