This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a high poverty, low income school as the general education teacher in a 1st grade early intervention program classroom. My students are beautiful and bright individuals who want to learn and succeed. Unfortunately, coming from such a low socioeconomic status, there are many hurdles my students must overcome daily in order to just survive. However, their hard work has paid off big time this school year which is evident through our school’s STEM certification journey and our vision to grow food, share fresh food with our community, and feed the hungry. In order to better serve and prepare my students for their futures, I must build up my classroom library with great books that motivate and inspire my students to become not only literate individuals but also avid readers who thirst for knowledge. Please join me in encouraging the new generation to be the best they can be!
My Project
You would be surprised to see how many students struggle to read. But really all it takes is finding out what each child is interested in, and then hooking them to a topic or series. I would love to have a wide range of books on various topics and with a variety of likable/relatable characters for students to fall in love with. I have selected books that I have seen 1st graders fall in love over the years. My books are well loved, used, and occasionally lost (which happens with little ones). Please consider helping to replenish my library! The book you send could be the one that inspires a student and makes a difference in their life
