This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Challenge and adversity are meant to help you know who you are. Storms hit your weakness, but unlock your true strength.” - Roy T. Bennett
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my middle school students (6th grade - 8th grade) are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
My students are at a hard age, an age that can make or break their desire to learn. Despite the many challenges they face, I am striving to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that unlock their vast array of strengths and talents.
My Project
My students will embark on in-depth novel studies with a partner or in groups. Students will self-select their chapter book and their partner or group book club. The amazing books selected on my list will lend themselves to a vast array of reading lessons that will engage students at an age that sometimes seems almost impossible. The chapter books will not only push and develop their reading skills but will, hopefully, also push and help them develop strong values of self-respect and respecting others.
I am hopeful to inspire each of my learners to continue on a path of academic excellence and social responsibility excellence.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you very much!
