Help me give my students up-to-date, interesting books that can meet the needs and wants of all readers. The books that you will be supplying to our school will go directly to the students through our RIF program.

My Students

Our students are 4K-6th Graders in a rural 4K-12 school that emphasizes community and life-long learning.

Do you remember when you finally discovered a book that made you "get it"?

This book helped you understand why your teacher has been working so hard to make reading a habit vs a chore. A book that led to other books which led to a lifetime of reading. This is what I am trying to instill in my kids.

A majority of my kids already love reading but there are those that have not found their niche in the plethora of books available to them. With that in mind, I am trying to find high-interest books that will help hook these kids into the joy of reading.

My Project

The books that you will be supplying to our school will go directly to the students through our Reading is FUNdamental program. This program reaches all of our 4K-6 students by allowing them to choose and keep a book, up to three times a year. Giving the kids access to texts in the home environment, to help support the literacy-rich school environment we all strive for.

Research has shown that the presence of books in the home has a greater influence on a child's level of education than does the parents income, nationality, or level of education (Education World).

There is also research to support that regardless of how many books the family already has, each addition to the home library helps children do better in school. That is why, we at Sevastopol Elementary, believe that we have to do everything possible to help get books into the hands of kids.
