My students need literacy games, such as junior scrabble, short and long vowel word games, building word games, concentration word games and crossword puzzles.
I teach in a hard to staff school where many of my students experience households that are engrossed in poverty. I do however, have wonderful students who try to learn in an environment where they experience hardships daily.
We live in a highly literate society and with all the technology prevalent in the world of our future leaders, we need to find a way to capture students' love of learning, and the foundation of reading, in a fun and engaging way.
Reading can take you anywhere I tell my students, so teaching them basics and working to the more detailed of reading, can teach them to dream and succeed in life through a world of literature. Using games such as Scrabble, the Reader Rabbit program, and using the dry erase markers on the dry erase boards to write sight words and sentences with those words, can help me to differentiate instruction for the different types of learners.
Your help will ensure that learning to read can be fun and will encourage my students to search for ways to have fun reading, making it a daily part of their lives.
