Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have taught First grade at Cardenas School for seven years and I have loved every minute of it! The school is Kindergarten to Third grade. The students are 99% Hispanic and come from low income families. The parents are very supportive in many ways, but they are unable to buy supplies for their children to use at school or at home. Reading is the basis for an excellent education. In my classroom I use Guided Reading; the students read books that are at their instructional reading level. My students are divided into six reading groups which have different strenghts and challenges. I subscribe to a website that allows me to download and print books that are targeted for each reading group. The students love that they get to color the illustrations and the book is theirs to keep and read at home! My school limits copy machine use, and copying the books exceeds my allotment. I would like to buy a multi-function printer/copier and copy paper so that I can continue to give my students the best possible start in Reading. Thank you for your kind and generous support!
