This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello and Hola! Our is a Dual Language Immersion School that enriches the lives of two hundred and twenty-five students in both English and Spanish. Our Title One school serves grades K-5. My students are hardworking, fun and creative! They love to learn but we have a wide range when it comes to academic levels. Most of my students are from a home that is considered at the poverty level.
My school is one of the highest poverty level schools in my district.
Empowering all students to thrive and achieve within a child-centered, dual immersion community is our school's vision. Our mission is to create a safe, positive environment that nurtures the growth and development of the whole child, empowering them to reach their full potential. We are in need of books that excite and helps students on that path of reaching their full potential.
My Project
We need new library books that students find exciting. It is important that students read each day and to encourage this I want to purchase my students new and exciting books. I also want to purchase books that help students learn positive behavior and acceptance of others. These books will be used during reading time. We have a limited amount of books that we can read to learn about diversity, manners, and positive behavior. I also want to get a variety of graphic novels. Many of our students have not read graphic novels. It is important that they have a variety of books available so they will be able to find ones they love and continue to read nightly! Students will also be encouraged to take these books home to read with their families.
Reading together not only allows families to engage together but also deeply strengthens students' literacy skills which are very important for them to become successful learners.
Reading is also an adventure as the story leaps off the pages!
