My Students

By the end of the school year, I want my students to become better readers and writers. In order to accomplish this goal, they must be engaged at all times. These games I am requesting will capture my students' love for learning as they will learn as they play.

My students are enrolled in a Title I school, and 98% of them are economically disadvantaged, with 99% receiving free lunch.

We also have minimal parental involvement, so our students have very limited resources at home to enhance their learning. As a teacher, I am charged with the responsibility of engaging my learners minute to minute.

My Project

I am requesting a Curriculum Mastery Set for Language Arts. This will capture my students' attention as they learn grammar skills by playing a hands-on, board game, which will reinforce what they know by reviewing standards based skills. In addition, the Hot Dots for learning reading comprehension skills set will also stimulate their minds as they read. When the student gets a question wrong, the pen will encourage them to check their answers. When they get the answer right, the pen will light up green and give the student a praise. These tools work wonders for students who either lack motivation for learning or do not believe in themselves. My students will work in groups to complete their reading activities. They will engage in partner reading, shared reading, discussions, and they will also be able to use peer to peer influence as they work together to learn reading comprehension and language arts skills. In addition, the positive messages they will hear when they utilize the Hot Dots pen will further ignite their passion to learn. Overall, students learn best through play and they will be learning while playing as they work at their centers.

These donations will give my students the hope they need to believe in their learning experiences.

They will certainly strive towards completing center activities with these interactive games. For instance, the Hot Dots pen speaks to the students and helps to reinforce their learning by giving them encouraging feedback as they get the answers right. These activities will encourage my students to persevere as they continue to read and learn grammar. Thank you so much for giving my students hope!
