Mr. Smith from Pooler GA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Reading is Fun with Family!

My students need 12 copies each of 4 novels for small group literature circles, with teacher guides and audio copies for students who are auditory learners.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Do you remember the struggle throughout school to read uninteresting books assigned by the teacher? My students need books that will captivate their interest as well as work upon the tools classic authors used.

My students are sponges of knowledge.

They always thirst for more and want to go deeper. We often use free online tools in order to make podcasts on iTunes or create our own website. We use the books we read in class, as well as the topics learned from other subjects to develop these ideas and encourage creativity. The problem they face is that we are a Title I school with a 65% free/reduced lunch count that does not receive the same funding as schools with higher percentages because of budget setbacks.

My Project

I am requesting novels for use in small group novel studies such as "The War with Grandpa", "Tuck Everlasting," "Bunnicula," and "Hoot." Through using small group novel studies, students will receive individualized instruction according to reading level. The novels chosen are books of high interest, which will also create links between reading and the students’ real lives. Through the utilization of audio books, students who are at lower reading levels will still be able to enjoy the book as they follow along in their paperback copy as the audio version reads it to them. Students who are visual learners will also receive the opportunity to view the movie and then compare it to what they read in the book.

The impact this project will have on my students is enormous.

Through the use of free resources, my students will be able to create book reviews and projects online to share with other classes across the country. The help we need in order to accomplish this feat is the purchase of the novels in order to complete the study.
