This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The elementary school students at my school are unlike students anywhere else in the world. They are uniquely wonderful in all aspects of their being. They attend a Title I school in a rural area of North Carolina.
In the past year, our school has implemented an intervention block, club day, and AVID, broadening our student experiences and creating new and exciting learning opportunities.
Our goals this year are especially targeted on closing the achievement gap through access to materials and resources.
My Project
I will use this funding to pay for lodging to attend the Scholastic Reading Summit in Chicago. This conference will help me to learn ways to incorporate literacy strategies into my school and library. The information that I learn will be used to come up with collaborative projects with teachers and students that promote the love of reading. My goal is to learn ways to effectively implement a One Book, One School program into my K-5 elementary school that is enriching and relevant to students. This will benefit my students by giving them more opportunities to develop a love of reading.
