This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade in an urban school in the Bronx. I absolutely love that at this age most of my students are still enthusiastic readers. They look forward to book shopping each week and diving into their books each day.
Don't you love that feeling when you curl up with a new book?
Maybe you're sitting on your couch, or lying in bed snuggled up with a blanket. Time just slips away while you read. I want my students to be able to have these same relaxing experiences with their books.
My Project
My students are asked to read for 30 minutes each day. Can you imagine sitting in a hard chair at a table with 6 other people, trying to read? And as a new reader, trying to concentrate and word solve?
I would like to create a classroom where my students can be comfortable while they read.
Maybe someone wants to lay down on the floor with a pillow under their head. Or perhaps another child can place a beanbag chair in a quiet corner of the room and escape to another place. Yet another child may want to place a pillow on top of his or her seat to feel more comfortable. Each of these things will be possible with my flexible seating reading seats.
