My students need flexible seating during reading! Having different seating choices like the flex-space comfy seats and the flex-space wobble cushions will make it feel like my students are dreaming with their eyes open!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are incredible learners! They are eager and enthusiastic to come to school and learn in two different languages and become bilingual and bicultural. My class is a blend of native English and Spanish speakers and they all come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. At times this can be a challenge when some children have many resources and experiences outside of school and others don't. But at school we make our differences unite us and we truly work as a team. We synergize to learn from each other and celebrate our successes together!
As a class we work hard to find the leader that exist within each student.
We do this by practicing the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. I wholeheartedly believe in helping students develop learning habits that transcent the classroom. Students work hard and always give their best effort because they understand that they are in charge of their learning. During this school year I want my students to know that learning is gratifying and endless.
My Project
I want my students to develop strong reading skills this school year, this is crucial because we are now moving on from learning to read to reading to learn. In order for this to happen, we need an inviting reading environment. Our classroom library is organized by themes and levels. We have a good balance of books in both Spanish and English, fiction/non-fiction and different reading generes. To make reading an enjoyable experience for my students I would like to incorporate flex-space floor chairs and flex-space wobble cushions.
My goal is to give my children a choice not only in the books that they read but also where they sit.
Choice allows students to feel empowered in their reading and in their decision making. This is an example of how my students are practicing being leaders in the class. I can't wait to see how flexible seating allows my students to further develop a passion for reading.
