Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Reading is dreaming with open eyes." -Yoyo I want my students to experience great books where it doesn't feel like a task or chore to read. With books on their own reading level, they can experience the wonderful adventures that readers go on!

I teach fourth grade Language Arts at a Title I elementary school.

Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds, on free or reduced lunch, come from single parent households, and English is their second language. Even though these students face many hardships outside of school, they do their absolute best they can when in school and have a hunger for learning. They come to school every day eager to learn about the world around them, and I want to give them as many experiences as I possibly can to ensure they are receiving a quality education where ALL students feel successful.

My Project

My students need access to a variety of engaging leveled books in our classroom library to be able to quickly choose quality books on their own independent reading level that will enhance their vocabulary, exposure to different genres, and text structure. With this project, my students will be able to select quality texts, read and share their journeys with their classmates, and respond to literature in meaningful ways. Many of these students go home without being read a bedtime story simply because there are no books in their homes. With this leveled library, my students will be encompassed with a print rich school environment that they can checkout to take home to share their love of reading with their family, especially their siblings!

My fourth graders are our leaders of tomorrow.

With this leveled library, they will have opportunities to learn about the world around them through books. Through your support, my students will fall in love with reading and may even become our next scientist, historian, or even president! We all need to experience dreaming with our eyes open.
