Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are special because they are four year old children who are eager to learn. They will be pre-school students, and for many this will be their first time in school. My students come from low socioeconomic families where both parents have to work to support the family. This leaves them with less parental involvement in their everyday life which in turn contributes to the challenges they face. Some of the challenges, to name a few, are low vocabulary, lack of fine motor skills, low social emotional skills, low math and literacy skills, and they have a deficiency in their English speaking skills. Even though they face these challenges my students are special because they are eager little sponges that want to come to school and soak up everything they can. They come to school every day ready to be motivated and challenged by me, their teacher, who awaits them everyday with a warm welcome and inviting pre-school classroom.

My Project

My students need a variety of bilingual books such as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid,La telarana de Carlota, The School is Alive series, and the Judy Moody Uber Collection to create a love for literature.

These books will improve my students learning because the more students read, the better they will perform in key reading skills such as reading comprehension and vocabulary.

My students also need the Steck Vaughn Bilingual Reading Comprehension books to use as homework as they reinforce classroom skills previously taught. These resources will make a difference in my students learning because they are bilingual resources for bilingual students.
