My students are bright-eyed, curious readers and writers! They love hearing and reading new books each time they enter my classroom. Their faces light up when they are able to solve words and understand stories on their own.
I know that literacy is the gateway to freedom and that it is my job to equip students with tools to create lifelong readers and writers.
Although these students need additional support as readers and writers, their desire to learn is contagious!
My Project
As a reading intervention teacher, my students need books that are specially tailored to their reading needs at each moment in their literacy journey. As the student's knowledge grows, so does their need to have more just right books available for them to read both at school and at home. The books in this project would enable me to better tailor reading and writing instruction to the individual needs of each student. Student progress accelerates as I am able to differentiate books for specific interests and literacy needs. These books would be read in my class in a one-on-one or small group setting. Then, the student would also use the books during independent reading in their classrooms and at home after school. The rich literacy experience of reading a variety of just right books will support these students as they work to reach grade level expectations.
