My Students
My students are motivated by their dreams. The 12 and 13 year-olds in my classroom yearn for success and opportunities. These students ask critical questions about the world around them and why things are not equitable in our society. They see and are impacted by the violence in our communities. Summer vacations don't provide much solace because their parents fear for their child's safety. Regardless of the social and economic burdens that follow my students, they work hard because they see glimmers of a better tomorrow.
My Project
Reading is a necessity. Its is a life skill that is used everyday. However, more and more kids choose to watch Tik-Tok than pick up a book. We must engage our kids in reading. Books can take us to new worlds and introduce us to wonderful and mesmerizing characters. Reading is a superpower.
Please help give my students engaging books that can compete with Tik-Tok and entice students to develop this superpower.
YA books are on the rise and there are so many new and wonderful titles available to our youth. Please help my kids gain access to these new adventures that books can provide.
