What if the classroom had a library full of books to spark the interest of every child? How big could that fire become?
At our school, we have students from a broad range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
While they have many differences, they still have a lot of things in common. They are kids who like to have fun and want to succeed and make a difference in their world.
My students have shown great potential and I cannot wait to see what they will do as they use their education to impact people around them. They are writers, scientists, engineers, artists, politicians, teachers, and much, much more. They will be fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who will reach into the lives of future generations and make a change that will alter the destinies of thousands, if not millions.
My Project
Reading and writing have truly become a part of every class in our district. In the Fall, a student bookshelf will open in my classroom with your help. Students will have the opportunity to read books during morning time or following completing an assignment. As students read the historical and historical fiction accounts, they will grow in their understanding of Social Studies content and reach closer to their literacy goals.
As their reading improves and their interest in history grows, they will become better overall learners.
Not only will that help them this school year, but for years to come as they build vocabulary and comprehension skills, greater confidence, and a love for learning.
