Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class of 30 learners is made up of newcomers - we come from Yemen, Dominican Republic, Pakistan, Venezuela, and Colombia! Our students are excited to be in a new school, in a new country, meeting new friends. We welcome families and friends to our class, creating a community working and learning together in this, their new home.
My students are learning English, but are challenged to keep up with fourth grade curriculum at the same time as we learn a new language.
Help us create a learning environment with the supplies and resources we all need for success.

My Project
My students are in a difficult spot. They are only learning English, but being in fourth grade now, they have missed the early literacy skills of knowing the alphabet sounds, sight words and vocabulary. Now we need to learn fourth grade curriculum while also learning a new language.
By using Mindplay as an interactive reading software in class the specific foundational skills needed for each child are targeted, taught and tested.
Each student works daily on instructional supports within an individualized learning program. Mindplay will support the mastery of early literacy skills needed for successful reading, writing and speaking in English.
