My Students
My students are the best! They are inner city kids struggling with many issues including violence in the streets. However, coming to school isn't one of the issues! They have great attendance, smiles on their faces and they are ready to learn. 100% of the students receive free breakfasts and lunches. The class is culturally diverse which is a learning experience in itself. These kids can succeed and go to the top, but they need new and exciting tools to get there.
My Project
First of all having current literature to read will add excitement. Educators need to find books that will engage and excite our students. This book will do that!
The Summer I Saved the World is about a young girl learning to do something positive for others during her summer.
Every day she performs an act of kindness. When the book is completed we are going to implement the same idea. We are going to work on doing individual acts of random kindness weekly and slowly move toward more frequent acts. Students will keep their acts documented and we will have a chart keeping track of our totals.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
