Although 94% of our students come from marginalized backgrounds, recent legislation has severely limited their ability to access information about their own heritage and history in the classroom. Our February Book Bingo is essentially a Black History Reading Challenge; it is a fun way for our students to gain exposure to Black authors, illustrators, narrators, and more. I am requesting stickers, croc charms, and wristbands for students to earn as they complete the various activities on their Bingo Board; the containers requested will house the prizes. This programming will be open to anyone who chooses to partake; but, students will neither be graded, nor will they be required to participate. These materials will make a difference in students' learning because they will return to class refreshed and ready to learn. What's more, they will return to class knowing that they are accepted and appreciated at our school.

We hope that, through these materials, students can start conversations about their identities that go well beyond the month of February. The ultimate goal of this project is for our students from under-represented populations to feel seen, heard, valued, and safe.
