Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Having a class set of books will make a difference in my students' learning because many of my students are below their reading level. By having culturally relevant books for them to read that they are interested in, they will be more likely to practice their reading skills. My students are special because they are a part of the first cohort of the AVID program at my school. These students have been working really hard on developing their reading skills, and have read "The Poet X" and "Dear Martin" during the first quarter of school.
Many of them, who had never finished a book from cover to cover before, were motivated to read in the classroom, and I hope to build that momentum with this new class set of books.
