My students need 25 high interest books such as "ScienceSaurus" hardcover books that are durable and long lasting. They are reading textbooks that are outdated and vandalized.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a vision for my students in that they will be independent learners with a lifelong natural curiosity of the world around them. I'm an advocate for inquiry and learning centers in Science. ScienceSaurus books are a major attraction for my students. They read these books from beginning to end.
I teach in a Title 1 middle school and my 7th grade classes are composed of English language learners that range from no English to limited English to Gift and Talented students.
All my students have enjoyed my Science learning centers with a variety of activities ranging from hands-on to writing and reading Science topics. I currently have ten softcover ScienceSaurus books that are well thumbed and used. With six classes averaging 28 students each, my students have to share these high interest books. My students have shown more interest in reading Science books that I've checked out from the library than the textbooks. Class textbooks are out-dated and vandalized so my students turn away from using these books.
My Project
My students need hardcover ScienceSaurus books that will last for the entire school year in which they will use along with their hands-on activities. My students will use these on-grade level books with colored graphics to engage them to read what they are learning while they are exploring with models and making observations. These books will be used daily with a variety of topics such as cells, body systems, ecosystems and natural events.
Having a class set of hardcover ScienceSaurus books will affect over 150 students this year and for several years as they will be durable and last longer than my current soft cover books.
With the natural curiosity of middle school students, the learning will have a lasting impact as my students read content beyond what we cover in class.
