My Students

We are a Title I building, 100% of our students are receiving free breakfast and lunches. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and many of them do not have books at home to read.

In our classroom, they love spending time in our library finding a new book to read and then going and finding a cozy spot in the classroom to read.

We believe that "Books are uniquely portable magic" -Stephen King. Because of this, we want to fill our classroom with more books and materials like pillows and bean bags so that we can get cozy in. That way we can get lost in a good book.

Right now we have text books in science and social studies that have been here for over ten years. They are outdated and are not engaging for the kiddos.

My Project

We currently have out of date science and social studies curriculums. My students are avid nonfiction readers. They need reading material that is engaging and up to date. These subscriptions will allow my kids to learn to navigate real life articles that are written at a third grade level. The articles are on topics that students can relate to. Each student would have their own copy of the articles. Along with those copies we would also get access to many online videos and articles. These tools will allow me to create engaging lessons that will challenge my students for both science and social studies.
