This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As the year is coming to a close, I am planning what I can do next year that has shown success in my class. My students are all English Language Learners who struggle with reading, writing, speaking and listening. During the school year we work on all four domains but one area they all struggle in is reading.

The students love reading whole group.

Reading is very important because they are all motivated this year to reclassify as English Proficient and scoring a high lexile is just one of the requirements that has to be met.

My Project

Towards holidays and the end of the year, many of my students have a difficult time, paying attention and staying focused on the curriculum. I am currently reading "The Outsiders" with my students and we only have 3 days of school left and the students are loving it.

Everyone is engulfed in learning, which is something hard to do the last few days of school.

Having a class set of novels in my class will allow the learning to continue with my students, when it is getting close to holiday breaks, and the summer.

The book I chose for my students is Monster, about a teenage boy who makes some bad decisions, leading him to prison. This is a story many of my students might relate to growing up in a low-socio economic, highly gang populated area.

I am hoping that, I can start reading this book this summer with my summer school students. I added plastic covers to the order with the books, so I could cover them and they can travel throughout the school years.

Once funded, I will be trying to get another set of books for my students. So keep posted.
