Reading in Comfort

My students need chapter books to use for guided reading groups and a comfortable area to read. The ottomans will provide a place to store books while providing comfort.

My Students

This is a group of students with a lot of energy and a wide variety of interests. Every day my students are at my door eager to start their day and see what we will be doing. I am constantly looking for new resources that will help guide instruction.

My students love a challenge.

Many of my students need to be completely focused on a project that stimulates their mind in order to be successful. I need to make sure all of our activities and materials are on grade level and above. My students attend a rural school in Iowa where 45% of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast each day. I am working to close the learning gaps in our school and provide an energetic learning space where all students feel like a part of a learning community.

My Project

I will be working with fluent readers in 4th and 5th grade. I am in need of books that will challenge, inspire, and engage students. I am always looking for new ways to help students develop a love for reading. I believe that comfort is another vital resource that can have a big impact on students' engagement while reading. Who doesn't love to find that special spot to sit down with a good book and get lost in the story?

Providing a comfortable well-defined area using ottomans for small groups with the great books I selected will help foster an excited community of learners.

I want to be able to provide my students with books that teach life lessons while helping them learn more about themselves. I also want to be able to share some classic books that have continued to impact past and present generations.
