My students need beanbag chairs and pillows to sit on and relax while I read. They will also be used by students during silent reading time.

My Students
The library at South Elementary is a busy place. Students enjoy coming to the library to check out books, use computers, and participate in lessons. I want to make the library a comfortable and inviting place where students will catch the joy of reading.
South Elementary is a Title 1 school in the piedmont of North Carolina.
My school has approximately 260 students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. South Elementary students are a diverse popluation with many backgrounds. We are the Shooting Stars and strive for excellence.
My Project
My library only has wooden chairs and tables. This is sufficient during lessons but not for sharing a book with students. I would like for us to have a comfortable area (bearnbag seats and comfy pillows) where students can sit and relax while I read. This will also become a great place that students can come and enjoy during silent reading time.
I feel that by making this space more comfortable, students will make the connection that reading is an enjoyable activity.
Once they make that connection they are more likely to read on their own. As we all know, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”-Dr. Seuss
