In our classroom we love to read. We can get lost in stories as a class.
The students in my classroom come from all different backgrounds.
Many of my students come from families who struggle to afford the basic necessities in life. My students are all wonderful, gentle souls that want to learn. Our school is a Title One school in a rural area. Our school is one of the largest in the district. We have over 230 kindergarten students alone!
My Project
Every day during our Language Arts block my students are divided into groups based on their individual levels and needs. During this time my students work with me on skills covering our kindergarten standards. In our books we look for things such as: characters, setting, and key details. We use them to learn basic reading strategies including using pictures to figure out unknown words. My students love this time and frequently make statements like, "I'm a reader now", however, my students lack a good classroom library of leveled readers. Many of our books are black and white and hard to decipher. My students need the access to leveled readers that will help inspire a love for reading.
Reading is one of the hardest skills in life to accomplish.
Many adults in America are illiterate. As a teacher I want my students to have a bright future because I have given them the skills they need to be successful. Every day we read books during guided reading that help us build a foundation of vital reading skills. By getting more leveled readers for my classroom that interest the students in my classroom you will help to shape their love for reading and learning!
