Reading in All Subjects

Help me give my students a library that is both cozy and organized. I am trying to incorporate more reading into my math and science class by creating a classroom library.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school, and my students have very diverse backgrounds. Some of my students have very rough lives outside of school, so my goal is to make my classroom their safe space. I would like to add comfortable seating and provide additional learning tools that will help them be successful in 5th grade. My goal is for my classroom to be a place where they can leave their baggage at the door and simply focus on learning.

My Project

My goal this year is to incorporate more reading into my math and science classes! I want to incorporate it into all of my lessons and provide the opportunity for students to read in my room. Right now I have a book shelf full of books, but I want to turn this bookshelf into a library. In order to do this I need to be able to organize the books based on what they are about. This requires a lot of bins, but it will make the idea of picking a book less intimidating for students. It will also help them spend less time looking for a book and more time actually reading it. I also requested a rug to make the reading area cozy and give students a place to sit or lay while they are enjoying the book that they chose.
