This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I may remember, involve me and I'll understand" Chinese proverb. This quote is a perfect way to describe a typical day in my classroom. Children learn in different ways. I strive to incorporate a variety of learning strategies to ensure each child's success.
My students are bright, ambitious and eager learners.
I have been extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to teach Special Education at an extremely poor Title I school in the city of Chicago. Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn. Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching material, and if they do, the funds are used for older students. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials. Therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning so my students can succeed in life.
My Project
With these helpful literacy materials, my students can just pop open a tub…grab an activity card and the corresponding materials…then practice sequencing & forming letters, using sight-words in sentences, sounding out simple words and much more! Best of all, when kids are done with an activity, they simply flip the card over to check their work. These materials will help during guided reading by the students transferring the skills they just learned and applying it to reading. The highlighter tape is perfect for drawing attention to important words, syllables & phonics sounds. It sticks right onto sentence strips, word cards, and classroom books. It also peels off to use again!
These materials encourages cooperative learning as well as gives children the opportunity to make some decisions and work at their own pace. With these resources, the literacy centers in my classroom will provide a wide range of activities and meet the different abilities of each student.
Your generous donation will provide my students with disabilities the extra support they need to become successful and confident readers.
The students are already putting forth the extra effort it takes to be an independent reader, but I must provide them with the resources they need to achieve their goals. This is difficult to do with a lack of supplies and funding, which is why your help is so very important and much appreciated. You are enhancing the learning experience of so many students!
