Reading Immersion Station

Help me give my students a fun reading area in our classroom; we have plenty of books, we are just lacking an area to immerse ourselves in reading.

My Students

I teach first grade in a rural school district, in a town of fewer than 2,000 people. My students are nothing short of amazing. They are eager to learn and willing to try anything that I come up with in class. I may be biased, but these kids have my whole heart. See, I have come full circle with my work as a teacher by teaching where I went to elementary school. I know these kiddos, I know their highs and their lows, their interests, and their stories. I want to give back to them.

Though we are in a small town, my class deserves every bit of knowledge that they can soak up into their "schema", as we call it.

My Project

My students are learning to read more and more as the year goes on. The more materials they are exposed to, the better readers they will become. Being able to relax in a comfortable area and immerse themselves in a book will help them to be introduced to more and different kinds of texts, which in turn will expose the students to new words and letter patterns that they can use to further their reading skills. This would require a bit of flexible seating and a bookshelf along with containers to hold books.They would love having a reading immersion station in our classroom so very much.
