My students are part of a very small school community in a very rural area. We are also considered a high-poverty school. Our school has an awesome, small community atmosphere. We care about each other and it is common to hear students asking teachers about their weekend or how their family is and vice versa. My students are hard-working, inquisitive and love to learn. They strive to do their very best every day. One of the best things about our school is our amazing students!
I will be teaching Advanced U.S. History for the first time in two years and want to make this the best year yet! I want my students to work on a variety of independent projects throughout the year. One of the options my students will have for their independent project is a book critique.
This project will purchase books for a classroom library to allow students to complete their Advanced US History quarterly project.
The reading project will allow students to explore areas outside of the textbook and to examine multiple viewpoints on history. Recognizing and understanding other viewpoints is a critical skill!
