My Students

"In special education hard work, persistence and confidence, prove a label is only a means of receiving the tools and resources needed to reach maximum success." I teach a cross-categorical middle school class of middle school students with a variety of needs. I have students with autism, down syndrome, and other intellectual disabilities. Although my students have a label I treat them as I would any other middle school student. We work on academics, social skills and life skills.

I want my students to be as independent as possible when they leave my classroom.

My Project

These emergent reading books will be great for my classroom. I have a hard time finding age appropriate topics on my student's reading levels. These books have teen topics on a level that my students will be able to read. These won't be 'baby' books as my students like to call them. This will also provide us with materials to reinforce comprehension and literacy skills.

Students will find these books more interesting since they have real topics. Helping students learn that reading is fun is perfect way to build better readers.
