Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you read a book that pulled you in so deeply, you almost forgot about the world around you? I want my students to have that feeling, and to grow to love reading with this beloved children's book.

My students are energetic, kind and inquisitive.

They keep me on my toes with their many questions. They love math, and I am hoping to promote that same feeling for reading and writing. My school is a heterogeneous mix of different cultures, and we teach our students to be very respectful of those differences. It is a low poverty school, and many students do not own books of their own, and rely on public or school libraries to access books to read at home. Currently, our school does not have the funding to buy a school librarian, which limits our access to the school library. New library books have also not been purchased in the last 7 years.

My Project

Students will be reading these books both in class and at home. We will use these books to promote literacy and writing, according to our state's Common Core standards. Students will be looking for themes, main ideas and details, as well as character development in the story to name a few.

By helping our classroom with a donation you will be making a huge difference in the academic lives of these children.

Fourth graders are very impressionable and a book that they could laugh and relate to will foster a positive experience with reading and literacy, that will hopefully start a lifelong love for reading.
