My Project

Sadly, the reading program our district uses does not include quality books which can be used for students to read during reading group. I'm an old-school teacher, and I know the value of daily group reading with high interest books. We work on vocabulary, fluency, oral, silent, and listening comprehension, discovering the meanings of new words through the context clues in the text, and so many other essential reading skills - during this quality, small group time. on their own reading level.

My students need challenging, exciting, high-interest books to read in small group.

By doing reading group daily, I have seen astonishing and measurable progress on a stellar scale with my second grade students. And best of all, they LOVE reading group. They are predicting what will happen next, watching characters develop, understanding the importance of theme, main idea, setting, etc.

Every one of my students realizes and values how much their reading skills have improved this year, and they are so proud of themselves. Reading group with quality books is a win/win for every student! They all love books and they all love to read, from my lowest readers to my high achievers. Of what more can a teacher dream?
