At the beginning of each school year, all my students are given a reading goal. The goal spans throughout the entire school year. Students read as many books as they can and afterwards take comprehension tests. If their score is high enough they earn points. At the end of the year I recognize everyone who made and often times surpassed their goals.
Reading needs to be a priority and encouraged so that students can be successful and engaged in their education.
