My students need books!! Most read at an amazing rate and I can't keep enough titles in my library. Many struggle to find high interest titles that will lure them into an authentic reading life.

My Students

My students live and attend school in Brooklyn, New York. They are a beautifully diverse group of children from a variety of backgrounds, representing a multitude of cultures.

One thing that they have in common is their desire to read.

My students consume books at a rapid rate and it is difficult to keep my library stocked with enough books to meet their needs. Additionally, it is difficult to hold on to enough copies to support book partnerships and book clubs.

My Project

Many of my students read one, two, even three books a week. Some struggle to find books that interest them. It is important to keep teens engaged and supplied with books. The close reading skills learned in the classroom will be applied and practiced during their independent and group reading work, enhancing critical thinking skills while reading.

The English Language Arts curriculum depends on students having access to books of their choosing.

In order to promote an active and authentic reading life for our students, we must be able to offer them a variety of highly engaging young adult titles. This collection will be read many times over by my students.
