Help me give my students engaging texts that they can connect with and comprehend.

The kids I work with struggle with their reading skills for many reasons including limited access to engaging and relatable books.
My students have help me realize that the right book can spark a like and eventually a lifelong love of reading.
A classroom library stocked with the right books has proven to be one of my greatest strategies to improving reading skills. Working at a new school this year, establishing a new library of "right" books will be key.
My favorite feedback from students about books from my classroom library include, "Ms. Gerli this book is lit!" "Ms. G I cannot believe how the book ended, that was messed up!" "Ms. G what other books does this author have?" I hope to hear similar comments about books from my classroom library from the students I work with this year too!
A classroom library filled with engaging books that students can access and connect with easily will have a positive impact on independent reading outcomes. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time at their own grade level. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
The library will offer books written by a group of well-known, diverse group of authors receiving critical acclaim including; Jason Reynolds, Sharon Flake, Kelly Yang, Sharon Draper and Trevor Noah.
The books' themes are easy for students to connect with and this with help further comprehension and the pleasure of reading.
