Reading can sometimes seem like a lost art amongst high school students, whose reluctance to read for pleasure hinders them from the many benefits reading brings. Graphic novels, however, are a fantastic gateway to reading and can introduce a passion for books. These graphic novels, including retellings of classic novels, contemporary stories, and engaging series, will be used in my classroom library and accessible for all students to read and enjoy.
I hope these graphic novels will spark a passion for reading in my students.
I have seen even the most reluctant readers fall in love with graphic novels - their compelling plot and appealing images are engaging. Likewise, their short length gives students such a sense of accomplishment when they finish that it builds their confidence as readers. Graphic novels are a gateway to reading, and my students desperately need help falling in love with reading!
All students will read these graphic novels, which will help instill reading habits that will last beyond high school.
