This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It can be difficult trying to get students excited about reading, especially when reading in itself is a challenge. Reading games will help build the confidence they need to become more successful readers.
Although my students are at a low-income school, they come each day ready to learn.
They come from diverse backgrounds. They get excited when we play the learning games we have (sight word bingo, flash cards-around the world). They are a good group of kids.
My Project
Each grade level at my school has reading interventions where we split students for a period of time according to their reading levels. I have the group that is just below grade level. Some students in my group are excited to learn, but there are some who just sit and try to hide in the background. With these reading games, I plan to use them during our reading intervention time to motivate all students to learn to read. They will be more engaged in their learning. Not only will I use them for reading interventions, but also for reading centers with my regular class. These games will build their reading skills as well as their confidence in reading.
Second grade is when students need to build their confidence in reading.
Second grade is when students learn to read because it becomes more difficult in third grade where they read to learn. Now is the time my students need to solidify their reading skills so that they can be set up for success in the years to come.
