With our new Wit & Wisdom curriculum this year, I get to explore both the depths of the ocean and outer space with my third graders! I am excited for how this will help bring more science learning into our classroom and I want to support my students with a library of books related to both these topics. I have also included books in Spanish to support my language learners int heir development and help them connect with our lessons!
My students are always curious, asking questions, and are at that age where they are now able to find answers to their questions by reading.
The science books in my classroom library are by far the most loved and passed around! As I tested out Wit & Wisdom with my class last school year, I created a display in my classroom with the ocean-themed books I have. Every day for independent reading, the display was cleared out... and our class discussions became so much more meaningful because the kids were excited to learn more and also to share what they learned on their own! It has been awesome to see how even the most reluctant readers, who struggle to find stories they connect with, can find something they want to learn more about. My small collection has been so beneficial for my students, I would love to expand it and have an even greater impact!
